A short intro to Cine Latino
Ahh, it’s this time of year again, time for Cine Latino! This is BIFF’s (Bergen International Film Festival) special festival celebrating latin american cinema over a long weekend. Over the weekend you can visit the cinema to get a taste of Latin America with dances, songs and food-stands selling homemade goods from different countries, but the movies are of course the main characters of the festival. This year there were some special guests visiting: Ana Endara from Panama, director of Beloved Tropic, Anna Recalde Miranda, italian-paraguayan director of Green is the New Red and Shirley Cruz, brazilian actress in The Business Women’s Club. Cine Latino’s 7th annual festival was a joy to visit, and we managed to watch six movies we want to tell you about here at Samviten!

Cine latino was a blast! It is a great opportunity to watch movies that don’t usually show in Norwegian cinema, movies from an entirely different part of the world. Having watched a handful of movies we can conclude that they are unique and at times intense, but a fun experience to look back on. The food was delicious, the dance was cool and the singing was beautiful. Meeting and talking to the people behind the movies was also wonderful, which you normally wouldn’t at a standard cinema showing. You should absolutely check out Cine Latino at its inevitable return in 2026.
